Does a Cellulite Cure Exist?
![]() |
Cellulite is a prevalent problem for women of all ages. It occurs when fat is stored under honeycomb shaped tissue called septae that is fibrous in nature. The deposited fat expands and protrudes through the septae which is what causes the cottage cheese or orange peel appearance. There are many potential causes of cellulite which include estrogen imbalance, genetics, age, level of exercise, poor circulation and more. However, it's not completely clear why this problem occurs. While there are ways to reduce the appearance of cellulite, it's unsure whether or not a cellulite cure actually exists.
There are many products out there these days that claim to get rid of cellulite. These products usually come in cream or gel form and are topically applied to the skin. Many of these creams and gels contain ingredients like caffeine, DMAE and retinol. Caffeine and DMAE have a diuretic effect, which works to tighten the skin by removing excess water. This may improve the look of cellulite temporarily, but is not going to get rid of it forever. Products containing retinol work by thickening the skin, thus concealing the appearance of cellulite. The cellulite is not gone, but is less noticeable.
These topically applied products can sometimes provide cosmetic improvement, but aren't usually going to be as effective for the reduction of cellulite as good old-fashioned diet and exercise. Cardiovascular activity is the ideal way to burn off excess fat, improve blood flow throughout the body and reduce unsightly cellulite. Examples of cardio include things like walking, running, dancing and aerobics. In addition to cardio, strength training can help by tightening and toning the muscles and increasing the body's ability to burn fat. Experts recommend getting at least three twenty to thirty minute sessions of cardio weekly in addition to three strength training sessions.
You may have heard claims that a cellulite cure can be found via cosmetic surgery. While liposuction can remove cellulite, it's expensive and can be risky. Some women swear by Endermologie, which is a procedure that combines pressure and suction to temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite. This procedure must be repeated on a regular basis to maintain results. Endermologie is less expensive than liposuction but can still be costly. Before trying a cosmetic surgery procedure, it's probably better to try exercise first.
